Created with members of Ngai Tahu iwi, this multi-screen documentary was part of our large scale container installation called ‘Waharoa’ that created gateways into Cathedral Square for the Christchurch Arts Festival 2009.
In close collaboration with the iwi, Storybox engaged four young people and four elders from Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu to share their thoughts, fears and hopes for the future of whanau (family), of technology, of te reo (Maori language), of environment, of Ngai Tahu, of our country and of our world. The result is a series of intimate, site-specific portraits articulating past and present experiences from a distinctly Ngai Tahu perspective.
“Their work is beautiful, engaging and provocative and represents a valuable contribution to the collective Ngai Tahu consciousness and the communities we live in.”
