With a look that screams Doctor Who meets Star Trek, Vocoder is an installation for kids that will be just as fun for adults. Using a mix of analog and digital technology, Vocoder allows the user to play with their voice.
The interface consists of a mix of brightly colour pipes. Each pipe can be spoken into and uses a dial to change the sound effects. The best thing about Vocoder is it’s a two way street. So two people can have fun talking back and forth, with a twist. This installation promotes fun, communication and has a striking look that attracted young and old alike.
We collaborated with Uji Studios on the concept and worked with our friends at Te Mahi to build the structure.
